02 — The Alps
The Alps
Leaving Le Mans, the route heads south-east through central France before climbing into the Alps. Courmayeur at the foot of Mont Blanc, the Grand St Bernard Pass, the Grimsel, and onwards through Switzerland. Day 8 crosses into Italy via the Gotthard and Maloja Passes, passing the head of Lake Como at Chiavenna.

Based in Bormio, home to three legendary passes — Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo. Two days of riding the greatest mountain roads in Europe before crossing the Stelvio east side into South Tyrol and descending into the Dolomites for two nights in Tesero.

Going Home
Leaving the Dolomites via Lake Garda and Lake Constance to Lindau, then up through the Black Forest to Baden-Baden for hot springs and beers. West through the Moselle Valley into Luxembourg, south Belgium, and finally the Channel crossing home.
